Patti Buchta, has been a member of the Oakland City University Department of Athletics since 1989. Patti has been the head softball coach since 1992.The OCU softball team has won four NCCAA Regional Championships (1998, 2006, 2010, 2016) and been to the NCCAA National World Series seven times ( 1997, 1998, 2000, 2003, 2006, 2010, 2016) where they were national runner up in 1997. She has a career record of 357-502 in twenty five years as the Head Softball Coach.

Patti was the Head Volleyball Coach from 1989-2000 and again from 2009 to 2015. The volleyball team has won three NCCAA Regional championships and has been to the NCCAA National championships five times. (1998, 2012, 2013, 2014, 2015). Her Career record is 267-235.

In addition to coaching the softball team, Buchta also has served as Assistant Men’s Basketball Coach from 2003-2013, Buchta was also the assistant women’s basketball coach from 1990-2001 and head women’s golf coach from 2000-2004.

Buchta has served as Senior Woman Athletic Administrator, NCAA Clearinghouse Coordinator, and Director of Transportation since 1999.

Patti is the All-Time winningest coach in both Softball and Volleyball at Oakland City University.

Coach Buchta was elected to the Oakland City University Athletic Hall of Fame in 2008.

Patti teaches in the Department of Health and Physical Education.

Before coming to Oakland City University, Patti coached at Pike Central High School in Petersburg in various capacities from 1982-1990 including Basketball, Volleyball and Track, where she still hold one school record in basketball. (FG% season .610). While a student at Pike Central, she letter twelve times including Basketball (4), Track (4), Volleyball (3) and Tennis (1).

Coach Buchta continued her athletic career at Wabash Valley College in Mt Carmel, Illinois, while playing Basketball, Softball and Volleyball. She then transferred to then Oakland City College to play Basketball for one year before injuring an ankle which ended her athletic career.

Patti is a graduate of Pike Central High School (IN, 1978), graduated from Wabash Valley College (IL, 1980) with an associate’s degree in General Studies, graduated from Oakland City College (IN, 1982) with a BS in Physical Education and History and holds a Master's of Arts in Education from the University of Evansville (IN, 1987).

Patti is a lifelong resident of Otwell, Indiana in Pike County, living on her family’s 200 acre homestead farm.
