OCU Welcomes New Soccer Coach
Oakland City University is proud to welcome Christian Serino as Men’s and Women’s Soccer Coach. Previously, Serino was an Assistant Women’s Soccer Coach at Southwest Baptist University (SBU) in southwest Missouri in 2005-2006. He was instrumental in helping to recruit the players that turned a 4-9-2 program into a 12-5-1 third place MIAA finish.
No stranger to filling dual roles, he served as the Head Coach of Men’s and Women’s Soccer at Feather River College (FRC) in California. There, he established the foundation for both programs and came within one victory of qualifying the Women’s team for the post season. He was named the Golden Valley Conference Coach of the Year finalist in 2004.
During the 2002, 2003 seasons, he acted as the Assistant Women’s Soccer Coach at Lassen Community College in the fall while also working for an independent semi-pro football team in Hawaii in the spring seasons. Lassen played for the National Championship in 2003 compiling a 24-0-0 record on the way to the title game, losing to three-time defending National Champion Long Beach in the final.
Before joining Lassen, Serino was the Head Coach for Men’s Soccer and the Assistant for the Women’s side at Patten University in the San Francisco Bay area. Serino brings over 10 years of coaching experience at the highest levels in the region and has been recognized for his recruiting prowess from his peers.
Serino received his Bachelor’s of Science degree in Physical Education/Kinesiology in 1995 from California State University, program under Coach Al Mistri while finishing his Bachelor’s of Science degree in Physical Education/Kinesiology. He then transferred to Azusa Pacific (APU) in Azusa, California where he completed his eligibility playing football and continued to work on his degree.
Serino began his collegiate career at Evangel University in Springfield, Missouri before transferring to Fullerton College in Fullerton, California.
Serino started playing what he calls “the greatest game on earth” at Lynn English high school in Lynn, Massachusetts where he was a two-sport athlete.
