Transition to Teaching (Non-Degree Program)

The Transition to Teaching (T2T) program is intended for dedicated individuals who are seeking to obtain a Certificate in Teaching and gain an initial teaching license.  The T2T license program is designed for potential candidates who have completed a baccalaureate degree in a teaching field and who are seeking initial teaching licensure.  We offer two (2) T2T programs:  1) secondary education and 2) elementary education.

OCU’s state approved T2T programs are dedicated to meeting that challenge consistent with state and national standards.

Admission Requirements

Prospective candidates must fulfill all three (3) of the following admissions requirements to be admitted into to educator preparation programs:

  1. A bachelor’s degree from a regionally accredited institution.
  2. A grade point average of 3.0 out of 4.0 at the undergraduate level; OR Both a baccalaureate degree with a grade point average of at least 2.50 out of 4.0 and five (5) years of professional experience OR a baccalaureate degree with a GPA of 2.0 out of a 4.0 and successfully pass the CASA and Content assessment(s) or GPA 2.0 and passing score of CASA and Content assessment(s).
  3. Demonstrate basic skills competency by using one of the following:
  • Successful passing of the Indiana CORE Academic Skills Assessment (CASA) OR
  • ACT® with a score of at least 24 based on Math, Reading, Grammar, and Science OR
  • SAT® with a score of at least 1100 based on Verbal/Critical Reading and Math if taken Prior to 3/1/2016  
  • SAT® with a score of at least 1170 based on Evidence - Based Reading and Writing and Math if taken on or after 3/1/2016 OR
  • GRE® with a score of at least 1100 based on Verbal and Quantitative OR
  • GRE® with a score of at least 301 based on Verbal and Quantitative on or after 8/1/11 or a Praxis I composite score of at least 527 based on Reading, Writing, and Math if taken prior to 9/1/13.

Oakland City Requirements

  1. Completed background check from the State of Indiana
  2. Current resume reflecting work experience, educational background, professional experience, professional activities, community service and other relevant information relating to the applicant’s leadership background.
  3. Official transcript(s) from all undergraduate and graduate institutions of study
  4. Completed application

For licensure to be complete:

  1. Candidates must pass the developmental area assessment (Pedagogy) that matches the grade level for which they plan to teach.  This can be taken during or after internship course.  Licensure cannot be completed until this test has been taken and a score of 220 or higher has been achieved; http://www.in.nesinc.com/

    The content area assessments included in the Indiana CORE Assessments for Educator Licensure are both required for licensure.  This is not needed to be admitted into the program but will need to be completed to finish the program.  The candidate must have acquired a score of 220 or better on the Core content assessment; and http://www.in.nesinc.com/

  2. Have a current CPR/AED/Heimlich training credentials AND be certified in suicide prevention.
