Most people say that math is boring and hard, but I am one of those people who have always enjoyed math and science.  I received my Bachelors in Mathematics from Indiana University, but had no idea what I wanted to do with my life.  The best option for me was to delay my decision two more years while earning my Masters.  While working on my Masters at Indiana State University, I taught lower level math courses and fell in love with teaching.  I finally knew what I was going to do with my life.  The problem was I didn’t know where I wanted to teach.  In the last semester of my Master’s degree, I visited Oakland City University to talk with the math department about any open positions.  The moment I walked on campus and met with Dr. Wright, I knew that OCU is where God wanted me to be.  I started as a Math Instructor in the fall of 2004.  As part of my contract, I agreed to continue my education at the doctorate level.  In the spring of 2008, I graduated from OCU with a Doctorate in Education, and was later promoted to Assistant Professor in Mathematics.  Each semester, I have many personal goals.  I wish all people loved math as much as I do but that might be a little bit unrealistic so I set a goal to at least have students not leave scared of math.

My husband and I currently reside in Mackey, Indiana.  We have two children that keep us very busy.  We also have three Labradors that compete in dock diving competitions.  Dock diving is a sport where the handler throws a toy into a pool and the dog jumps off the end of a dock into the pool to retrieve the toy.  The distance that the dog jumped is then recorded for competition.  It is kind of like long jump for dogs.  As a family, we love to travel and spend time with our dogs.  Dock diving competitions allow us to do both.

Another important aspect of my life is volunteering and being an active member of my community.  I have coached several youth basketball, volleyball, baseball, and softball teams.  I have worked with Junior Achievement to educate local students about being financially responsible and workforce ready.  I am a member of East Gibson Dollars for Scholars which is an organization dedicated to supplying scholarships to Wood Memorial seniors that are pursuing college.  I am also an active member of Mackey Salem United Methodist Church and serve on church committees.  On campus, I volunteer my time to help Admissions with summer spree activities and other student events.  I am the Math Club sponsor and facilitator of Financial Peace seminars.

In my free time, I enjoy scrapbooking, watching Indiana University basketball (Go Hoosiers!!), watching movies, and spending time with my family.  When weather is appropriate, I like to go hiking, camping, and other outdoor activities.
