EDUC-500 Introduction to the Profession

This course examines social, philosophical, and educational ideas and ideals. It is designed as an introduction to the study of schools and as an introduction to the changing world of education, what is takes be a professional educator, and how the changing 21st century student changes what and how things are taught. The course is not about the "how" of teaching but the “why". The focus of this course will be the idea that American education and schooling reflect the wider society in which we live.  Throughout the course, it is the intention to deepen your understanding of how what goes on in schools is related to the values, belief, and structures of the world outside.  Prerequisite:  None
