EDUC-103 Exceptional Children

Candidates explore the types of exceptional learners who are included in the students with mild disability category (for example learning disabled, intellectually disabled, emotionally and behaviorally disabled, hearing impaired, etc.) and candidates explore how to effectively assist these students in learning. This exploration includes the history of services for the children with disabilities, developmental theories, practices, research, and teaching techniques for producing optimal growth. Students will explore public policy, mainstreaming, inclusion, early intervention, RTI (response to intervention), UDL (universal design for learning), and IEPs (individual education plans). (Same as SPED 101.)
