Passing of Dr. Claudine and Adelaide Cutchin
Oakland City University is saddened by the news of the passing of Dr. Claudine Cutchin and her daughter Adelaide Cutchin from a car accident yesterday evening. Dr. Cutchin was a 23 year employee of the university. She was Registrar from 1994-1999. In 1999 she became part of the history faculty, currently holding the rank of Professor of History. She was twice named Teacher of the Year (1998 and 2009) by the student body. On October 20, 2008, Dr. Cutchin became Dean of the School of Arts and Sciences and has continued to serve in that role to the present.
Adelaide Cutchin was also a member of the OCU family, having graduated with her bachelors degree in December of 2016.
Dr. Ray Barber, President of Oakland City University stated, “Dr. Cutchin was a great professor, dean, and friend who served Oakland City University faithfully. She exemplified the mission of OCU and will be greatly missed by the administration, faculty, staff, and students.”
Classes are cancelled for the remainder of the day to allow time for the university community to grieve. Meetings will be held today at 1:00pm and 3:00pm for students who might need to speak with a counselor.
Dr. Cutchin was a vital and loved member of the Oakland City University family. The university community offers our condolences and prayers to the family during this time.
