Oakland City University Top 28

Oakland City University received four rankings from the annual U.S. News and World Report’s Best Colleges report, including a place among Top Regional Colleges in Midwest.

OCU came in at number 28 in the Top Regional Colleges in the Midwest, up eight places from its 2020 ranking.  Factors taken into account by the U.S. News and World Report when ranking regional colleges include; graduation and retention rates, social mobility, graduation rate performance, undergraduate academic reputation, faculty resources, student selectivity, financial resources, average alumni giving rate, and student indebtedness.

“Our move up in the Regional Colleges ranking,” stated Dr. Ron D. Dempsey, president of OCU, “is evidence of our positive trajectory.  Our new academic majors in technology, the Career Pathways program, and move to the NAIA have set us on the right direction.  I look forward to what God has planned for Oakland City University.”

OCU also earned the number five ranking for Social Mobility, which measures the overall enrollment and graduation success of economically disadvantaged students.

“OCU has allowed me to obtain a college education while keeping my out of pocket cost very low. The Office of Financial Aid does absolutely everything they can do to make it possible for every student to attend Oakland City University. Without the financial support from OCU, I would most likely be working a job that I dislike, instead of following my dreams to become an educator.” said current OCU student, Cody Glasco.

The Social Mobility ranking looks at the graduation rate of those receiving the Pell Grant, which is typically awarded to students whose adjusted gross family income is below $50,000 annually, most often under $20,000.

OCU Director of Admissions, Elliott Spruell says,  “One of the most rewarding things I experience at Oakland City University is the daily effort, care, and support that is provided to each of our students to ensure they are in best possible position to succeed while at OCU.  I am so grateful to work at a university and in an admissions office that provides the opportunity for any qualified student wishing to further their education.  I truly believe, here at OCU, we are in the business of changing lives.

Almost 100% of all students at Oakland City University receive financial aid.

Oakland City University is committed to providing a top-quality academic education with a career focus.  Many of our students would not have been able to attend college, let alone a private one.  Because of our generous scholarship program and commitment to educating good, academically solid students from the Midwest, our students can afford a private Christian education at a state university price.   This commitment to providing quality education to deserving populations is recognized also in the university being voted 3rd in the Midwest Regional College for Veterans.
