New Castle Correctional Facility Hosts Families for Meal
The New Castle Correctional Facility recently invited offender families to enjoy a holiday meal to celebrate those offenders with good conduct. Offenders invited two guests to enjoy the meal, prepared by Oakland City University (OCU) Culinary Arts students, which included turkey, roast beef, mashed potatoes, green beans, dressing and pie.
The visiting room at the facility was transformed with holiday decorations and table service provided by the OCU Education staff. The event hosted 67 offenders and 197 visitors who also received a poinsettia at the event. Due to the success and positive response, the facility intends to hold another meal for an additional 75 offenders and 213 visitors.
Family preservation is an important link to successful re-entry. OCU staff was pleased to partner with GEO staff, both custody and non-custody to provide this event to offenders and their families.
