OCU Marks Constitution Day

Constitution Day commemorates the formation and signing of the US Constitution by 39 brave men on September 17, 1787, recognizing all who are born in the US or have become citizens by naturalization.

The Constitution established America’s national government and fundamental laws, and guaranteed certain basic rights for its citizens. On September 17, 1787, the delegates to the Constitutional Convention met for the last time to sign the document they had created to form a more perfect union.

OCU Awarded $10,000 ICAN Grant

Oakland City University has been awarded a $10,000 grant from the Indiana Collegiate Action Network with support from the Division of Mental Health and Addiction.  This grant will address Depression and Suicide topics within the OCU community.

Oakland City University Students Receive Aramark Scholarship

On Wednesday, September 25, 2019, Aramark awarded four $1,000 scholarships to Cynthia Averitte, Charlene Tabb, Bianca Newgent and Vanessa Thompson, students with OCU at the Indiana Women’s Prison (IWP).  The scholarships were awarded as part of the Aramark Scholarship Program.

Aramark is the contracted provider of food services for the Indiana Department of Correction and their food services program, In2Work, provides offenders with skills needed to work in the food industry such as meal planning, industrial kitchen safety, nutrition and more.

Presidential Transition

This morning at 8:00 am a brief Presidential Transition Ceremony took place in the Executive Office of Oakland City University.  Dr. Ray Barber, Outgoing President, handed over the keys to the Office of the President to Dr. Ron Dempsey, Incoming President and ceremonially placed the presidential medallion around his neck, signifying the transition from one president to another.  Dr. Ray and Beth Barber will be formally recognized for their years of service to Oakland City University at events being planned for Tuesday, September 24, 2019.

OCU School of Education Launches Partnership with the National Institute for Excellence in Teaching (NIET)

In collaboration with the School of Education faculty at Marian University, several OCU School of Education faculty members will be participating in the National Institute for Excellence in Teaching (NIET) three day training on August 5th-7th.  Many of the OCU SOE faculty members will be trained on NIET’s national model of teacher effectiveness, rubrics for continuous professional educator effectiveness, planning models, and assessment practices.

OCU Cheerleaders to Host Spring Cheer Camp

The OCU Cheerleaders are hosting a 1-Day Cheer Camp on Saturday, February 16th, 2019. The program is available to those in Kindergarten thru 6th grade.

The camp will be held in OCU's Johnson Center (gym) from 9:00am until 12:00pm CST (Doors will open at 8:30 am).  Participants will learn Tumbling, Jumps, Dance, Building/Stunts, and Cheers.

OCU Graduate Named Head Football Coach at Evansville North

EVANSVILLE, IN (WFIE) - The EVSC Board of School Trustees approved the appointment of Joey Paridaen as the new head football coach at North High School. Paridaen was most recently head football coach, teacher and athletic director at Eastern Greene High School in Bloomfield, Ind.

Paridaen graduated from Oakland City University with a B.S. in Business Education, and has served as head football coach at Eastern Greene High School for the past four years. Previously, he served as head football coach at Wood Memorial and assistant football coach at Gibson Southern High School.

Campus Blood Drive Collects 12 Pints Blood

The Red Cross held a blood drive on OCU's main campus last week. 

The blood drive, sponsored by OCU's Career Services department was a success, collecting 12 pints of blood and registering 17 donors, including 3 first time donors.

OCU to Host Annual Gospel Concert

Oakland City University will be hosting their annual Gospel Concert on Friday, November 3rd, 2017.  This year's concert will feature The Hoppers and The Collingsworth Family.  The concert will be held in Johnson Center with doors opening at 6:00 pm and the concert starting at 7:00 pm.  Tickets will be $16 at the door. FAFSA Deadline Approaching for Indiana Residents

The deadline to submit your FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid) for all Indiana residents is March 10th.  Current and prospective students who wish to apply for University aid must have completed and submitted their FAFSA by this deadline.  If you have questions about submitting your FAFSA, you may contact the Office of Financial Aid at 812-749-1224 between the hours of 8:00 am and 4:30 pm, Monday through Friday.

The Oakland City University Family acknowledges with sincere sympathy the death of Dr. Claudine Denise Delhomme-Cutchin and Adelaide Emmanuelle Cutchin on Thursday, February 2, 2017.

Passing of Dr. Claudine and Adelaide Cutchin

Oakland City University is saddened by the news of the passing of Dr. Claudine Cutchin and her daughter Adelaide Cutchin from a car accident yesterday evening. Dr. Cutchin was a 23 year employee of the university. She was Registrar from 1994-1999. In 1999 she became part of the history faculty, currently holding the rank of Professor of History. She was twice named Teacher of the Year (1998 and 2009) by the student body. On October 20, 2008, Dr. Cutchin became Dean of the School of Arts and Sciences and has continued to serve in that role to the present.

ISF Donates Pumpkins to Local Schools and Career Center

Putnamville Correctional Facility donated 300+ pumpkins to the Area 30 Career Center for educational uses as well as for distribution to local elementary schools. The pumpkins were grown in the facility garden with the help of offenders enrolled in the Horticulture Vocational Training Class. The Putnam County Sheriff’s department partnered with ISF to make the donation possible.

Madison Juvenile Teachers Chosen to Present at International CEA Conference

Oakland City University continues to demonstrate leadership in the field of correctional education, as evidenced by its presence at the 71st Correctional Education Association (CEA) International Conference and Training Event held in Long Beach, California this past summer.  Ms. Samantha Goldsmith and Ms. Laura Goodwin, both teachers at the Madison Juvenile Correctional Facility (MJCF) in Madison, Indiana, were selected to make a presentation about the use of secure wireless tablets with the students in their school.

OCU Offering Transfer Friendly Options for ITT Tech Students

Oakland City University is offering special transfer options to provide educational assistance to students of ITT due to the school’s closure.

OCU has academic advisors at our main campus in Oakland City, as well as, at off campus sites including Plainfield, Bedford, Evansville, and Rockport to provide assistance to ITT students. Advisors can be contacted in-person, email or phone to schedule appointments during the day or evening. Advising can be done remotely for online students, as well.
