Workshop: Real Colors Workshop

Description:
The Real Colors Workshop is designed to help students with the following:

  • Recognizing strengths and weaknesses in themselves and others
  • Building rapport with parents, teachers, and peers
  • Speaking the language of their listeners
  • Enhancing their ability to understand how others process information

The workshop provides an opportunity for students to learn to work effectively in groups with students from other schools.

Attendees will tour the campus of Ivy Tech Community College in Evansville, Indiana.

  • Preparing financially for emergencies

  • Buying a vehicle
  • Needs versus wants
  • Being an alert consumer

The workshop also includes a tour of the host college or university.

Workshop: College Shadowing

Description:
T he College Shadowing day exposes participants to a typical day in college. In groups of 3 or 4, participants accompany college students to class, work study jobs, club or organization activities, the library for studying, and the student union to hang out.

  • Meet with a college admissions representative who will provide information on ways to prepare for college admission

The 8th Grade College Planning Workshop makes students and parents aware of college expectations and the importance of early planning. Students learn new study skill techniques. Parents receive an introduction to financial aid.

Students and parents will receive instructions for filling out college applications. During the workshop, students will apply to 2 or 3 postsecondary institutions of their choice.

In the FAFSA Workshop, students and parents receive information on types of financial aid, scholarships, and other funding for post-secondary education. Parents and students will learn how to fill out the FAFSA online
