Student Organizations

Requirements for Club/Organization Officers:
Each club recognized by Oakland City University will be able to elect their own officer provided they meet the following requirements.
1. Must have a cumulative GPA of at least 2.5
2. Must not be on academic probation.
3. Must not be on social probation.

Religious Groups

The Student Christian Association strives to create and promote a strong spiritual atmosphere on campus and to provide opportunities for discussion, worship, and Christian fellowship.

The Theologs is an organization composed of students majoring in the School of Religious Studies. Its purpose is to develop closer ties among students entering full-time Christian service.

 

Musical Groups

Encore, the University Concert Choir, is a vocal group which combines the efforts of the musical organization for special concerts and provides practicum experiences for those entering professional programs in music as well as extracurricular experiences in singing.

Earthlight is a touring group that visits churches in an effort to expose young people to the University and its mission.

 

Honor Societies

Alpha Psi Omega is a national co-educational dramatic fraternity.

Davidsbuendler is a national co-educational music fraternity. The chapter at Oakland City University was the second to be organized in the nation.

Sigma Kappa Sigma is a local academic honor society for outstanding junior and senior students.

 

Professional Groups

The Business Professionals of America with state and national affiliation provides leadership training and acquaints students with the various types of occupational opportunities in the business field.

The Music Educators National Conference (MENC) is a collegiate organization for students planning a career in music education. Members participate in national and state music education activities.

The National Art Education Association (NAEA) is a professional organization with state and national affiliation. The local student group participates in state meetings and encourages discussion of issues relevant to art education.

The Society for Human Resource Management (SHRM) is the world's largest association devoted to human resource management. Representing more than 200,000 individual members, the Society's mission is to serve the needs of HR professionals by providing the most essential and comprehensive resources available. As an influential voice, the Society's mission is also to advance the human resource profession to ensure that HR is recognized as an essential partner in developing and executing organizational strategy. Founded in 1948, SHRM currently has more than 550 affiliated chapters and members in more than 100 countries.

The Student Education Association, a service organization for education majors, provides opportunities for personal and professional growth, development of leadership skills, understanding of education programs at state and national levels, and participation in professional activities.

The Student Ambassadors are a dynamic group of students who are passionate about OCU and all it have to offer. They work through and with the Admissions Office to help prospective students and their families learn more about the University. Student Ambassadors not only serve as tour guides, but as a reference throughout the year about life on the OCU campus.

The Student Government Association (SGA) serves as the official representative body for students, acting as a liaison between students and administration. The group deals with a broad range of issues including student life on the campus of Oakland City University.  SGA is interested in hearing from students who have recommendations for improving the life of students at OCU and typically becomes actively involved in most issues on the campus.

The University Theatre is open to all students interested in acting or production and presents at least two major productions a year.

 

Visual Arts Groups

The Art Guild attempts to increase exposure and enrichment in the visual arts for students and faculty. The organization serves both a social and educational purpose and provides opportunities for discussion, travel, galley participation, and audio visual viewing of current and historical value.

S.A.L.T. (Students for Artistic Learning and Technology) is a student organization that explores career options in the visual arts, examines visual arts technology, and is available for community service.
