Scholarships are awarded to students on a first-come, first-serve basis. All scholarships are awarded pending the receipt of the student's final high school transcripts and/or college transcripts and ACT/SAT scores by the Office of Admissions. University scholarships and grants, except for the General Baptist Award, are only for traditional Main Campus and Bedford undergraduate students.

ACADEMIC SCOLARSHIPS

The scholarships listed in this section are based on achievement not financial need. The academic scholarships are renewable for 8 consecutive semesters provided the student maintains the required GPA. Scholarships are awarded pending receipt of final high school and/or college transcripts and ACT/SAT scores by the Office of Admissions. *GPA is based on the student's final transcript; GPA is based on a 4.0 scale.

Proficiency in one instrument.
Music scholarships are awarded to students with musical talents in an audition with the music faculty. For further information, contact the Office of Admissions to schedule an appointment with the Music Department at 800-737-5125.

ADDITIONAL SCHOLARSHIPS AND GRANTS

These scholarships are based upon specific criteria. Scholarships are awarded pending receipt of final high school transcripts or college transcript and ACT/SAT scores by the Office of Admissions.

Outreach Grant

This scholarship is to attract new and transferring students who are African American, Asian, Hispanic, or Native American.
General Baptist Grant
Up to 50% of tuition
None
This grant is available to eligible freshmen and transfer students. To be eligible, the student, parent, or legal guardian must be a member of a General Baptist Church.
Ministerial Grant
Up to 50% of tuition
None
Ministerial Grants are awarded to students who are ministers or dependents of ministers.
Christian School Grant
Up to 50% of tuition
None
Available to first time Oakland City University students who have graduated from an accredited private Christian school. Homestead students are eligible for this grant.
Dollars for Scholars
Up to $2000 matching grant
None
To be eligible, students must have received a scholarship at their local high school. The "Dollars for Scholars" plan will then match the amount of that scholarship, up to $2,000.
Veteran's Grant
Up to 50% of tuition
None
This grant is given to anyone who has served in the United States Armed Forces. OCU makes this grant available to prospective students as an effort to show support for our military veterans.
*Additional grants available for international students.

 

21st Century Scholarship

Full Tuition Scholarship
This grant is awarded to Indiana residents who qualified through their High School Guidance Office in the seventh or eighth grade. Oakland City University will cover additional tuition costs beyond the state's allowable reimbursement so that the student's full tuition be paid. This is contingent on the basis that the student fulfills all the 21st Century Scholarship guidelines.

 

Kentucky Educational Excellence Scholarship (KEES) Grant

This grant is offered to residents of kentucky who can earn up to a maximum of $500.00 per year in high school and a maximum of $500.00 on the ACT Exam. A student can receive a maximum of $2500.00 per year at Oakland City University though the KEES Grant. The KEES grant is awarded only to incoming freshmen or transfer students. This grant is not stackable and cannot be used in addition with other University funded scholarships.

 

Financial Assistance

Financial Aid is available to students through federal and state programs. For additional sources of financial aid the University grants and scholarships are also available. Students apply for the federal and state programs by filing the Free Application for federal Student Aid (FAFSA) form. Questions about applying for assistance should be referred to the Office of Financial Aid at 812-749-1224. The Federal and State Awards are subject to all of the Title IV Federal Financial aid Regulations.

Grants - Loans - Work Study

Eligibility for the Federal Grants, Loans, Work Study and the State of Indiana are determined by the Federal Needs Analysis performed by the Free Application for Financial Aid (FAFSA) form. Questions about applying for assistance should be referred to the Office of Financial Aid at 812-749-1224. The Federal and State Awards are subject to all of the Title IV Federal Financial Aid Regulations.

Federal Pell Grant
Up to $4,310 per year*
The Pell Grant is a federally funded grant program designed to aid undergraduate students who show financial need.
Federal SMART Grant
This grant is awarded to students who are Pell Grant eligible and are majoring in Math or Science. This award is given to Juniors and Seniors in college majoring in one of these areas and has a GPA of 3.0 or above. Juniors receive $4,000 for the academic year. Seniors receive $4,000 for the academic year.
Federal Academic Competitiveness Grant
This grant is awarded to Freshmen and Sophomores who finished a rigorous high school curriculum. First year award is $750. Students who complete their freshman year with a GPA of 3.0 or above may be eligible for the sophomore year award of $1300.*
Federal Supplemental Educational Opportunity Grant
Up to $3,000
The SEOG is a federally funded grant program designed to aid undergraduate students who show a financial need.
Frank O'Bannon Indiana Higher Education Award
Up to $3,100 per year
This award is provided to Indiana residents through the State Student Assistance Commission of Indiana for undergraduate students who demonstrate financial need. It is applied to the cost of tuition only. To apply for these funds, students must submit the FAFSA by by March 10.
Federal College Work Study
Up to $3,300 per year*
Oakland City University offers approximately 150 on-campus student jobs. Work assignments are made on a first-come, first served basis and are based on financial need.
Federal Academic Competitiveness Grant
This grant is awarded to freshmen and sophomores who finished a rigorous high school curriculum. First year award is $750. Students who complete their freshman year with a GPA of 3.0 or above may be eligible for the sophomore year award of $1,300.

Federal Perkins Loan
Up to $4,000 per year*
Loans are awarded to graduate and undergraduate students who show financial need. Repayment of this loan begins nine months after a student ceases half-time enrollment status. Interest is 5% simple interest.

 

*These amounts are based on maximum awards allowed by state and/or federal regulations during the 2007-2008 academic year.
