The Mighty Oaks Take Season Opener at Logan University

The Oakland City men's basketball team travelled to the campus of Fontbonne University in St. Louis, Missouri Tuesday evening for their season opener against Logan University (formerly Logan Chiropractic).

After a slow first half in which the Oaks only managed a nine point lead at 39-30, the Oaks offense started to get on track in the second period. The second half began by seeing the Oaks open up a 24 point lead thanks to a 17-2 run. With nine minutes left in the game Logan had cut the lead to 17 but Oakland City responded with more defensive pressure and closed out the game for an opening win of 87-66.

Nathan Schumacher led all scorers with 17 while pulling down a game high 16 rebounds. Brandon Hopf scored 16, while newcomer Brett Wilson added 15 coming off the bench. Newcomer Jared Maners scored 12 to go with his game high 9 assists. Leading the way for Logan was Justin Baker with 16 points, 11 boards and 5 blocked shots.

The Oaks are scheduled to face OSU-Mansfield Saturday, November 21, at 3:00 pm in the Johnson Center.
