Schumacher Has Fifth Double-Double of the Season as the Mighty Oaks Down Concordia SeminaryApril 13, 2010 at 3:58 PM
Oakland City, IN - The Oakland City men's basketball team hosted the Preachers from Concordia Seminary Saturday afternoon in the Johnson Center, winning by a final score of 89-73.
Concordia never led in the game, but was able to keep the game within reach during the first half after the Oaks opened the game on a 19-2 run. By halftime, the score was 38-32 in favor of Oakland City. Concordia began the second half by scoring six points while Oakland City scored only two and the lead was cut to two points. The Mighty Oaks responded by a scoring run of 15-3, six of which went to senior Nate Schumacher, to open up a 14 point advantage at 55-41. The Preachers again responded, thanks to the hot hand of Stephen Carretto, and cut the lead to four at 70-66 with just over six minutes to play in the game, but Oakland City prevailed in the end, winning by a comfortable sixteen points.
Leading the way for the Mighty Oaks was Schumacher, who was nearly perfect from the field, scoring 25 points on 11-12 shooting to go with his game high 12 rebounds. Craig Parks scored 14 and Brandon Hopf added 13 while Jared Maners scored 10 to go with his team high eight assists. The Preachers were led by Carretto, who put up 34 points while shooting 9-15 from three point range. Wil Stelzer scored 11 to go with his game high 9 assists.
The Mighty Oaks are in action again Wednesday, December 9th, when the travel to face Quincy. That game is scheduled to tip at 7:30 pm.
