OCU Women Lose to BellarmineApril 19, 2010 at 2:26 PM
Oakland City, IN - A mere two days after losing starting point guard Brittany Hart for at least three weeks due to an appendix surgery, the Lady Oaks faced Bellarmine University in the Johnson Center Thursday night. Bellarmine entered the game having lost only once, to Southern Indiana University, while the Oaks had dropped their previous two games.
The first half saw the Lady Oaks fall behind soon after taking an early lead. The Knights had built a 15 point advantage, 21-6, with just over thirteen minutes in the period. The Lady Oaks kept the game even the rest of the half, trailing by 13 at halftime, 29-42.
The Lady Oaks were never able to make a sustained run to get back into the game and the Knights continued to build on their lead, which grew to 27 at 57-84 with just over six minutes to play in the game. The Lady Oaks were able to go on a 9-0 run, cutting the lead to 18 with just over three minutes left, but the comeback would fall short with the final score being 72-91 in favor of Bellarmine.
Oakland City was led in scoring by senior Kristi McVey with 24, followed by Sam Stahl with 13 and Jane Barclay with 11. McVey also led the team in rebounding with 9 boards. Bellarmine was led by Brittany Edelen with 22 points on 5-8 shooting and a perfect 12-12 from the free throw line. Edelen also had a game high five blocked shots. Jalissa Chatlos tallied a double-double for the Lady Knights with 12 points and a game high 12 rebounds.
The Lady Oaks are scheduled to face Ohio University-Chillicothe Saturday, December 19, in the Johnson Center at 1:00 pm. Saturday's game is being sponsored by Integra Bank.
