OCU Women Break Three Game Skid as they Beat Robert Morris-SpringfieldApril 19, 2010 at 2:36 PM
Oakland City, IN- The Lady Oaks returned home after playing seven straight games on the road, a streak in which they only won two games, taking on the Eagles of Robert Morris-Springfield and winning by the final score of 82-71. Senior forward Kristi McVey was recognized for her outstanding contributions to the team over her career and senior manager Stephanie Fenton was also recognized for her help this season.
The Lady Oaks opened the first half moving the ball well and allowing the Lady Eagles to shoot only 27.3% from the floor to take a 29-40 halftime lead, thanks to connecting on 16-20 free throws in the half. In the second half, Robert Morris made several runs at closing their deficit, but the Lady Oaks responded every time with timely plays to pull out the victory 82-71.
Oakland City was led in scoring by Kristi McVey and Sam Stahl with 18 points each. Sarah Roth added 14 points and a game- and career-high 14 rebounds. Berna Miranda scored 11 while tying McVey with a team-high five assists, while Rachel Moore scored ten points off the bench while adding six rebounds, dishing out three assists and blocking two shots. The Lady Oaks went 8-16 from beyond the three point arc and shot a solid 24-31 from the free throw line for the game. The Lady Eagles were led in scoring by Tiara Perry, who scored a game-high 28 points, and in rebounding by Jorita Wright, who pulled down ten rebounds to go with her 18 points.
The Lady Oaks return to action on Tuesday, February 23, for their last home game of the season. The square off against Central State at 7:00 pm.
