Oakland City, IN - The Mighty Oaks played host to the Ohio University-Lancaster Cougars Saturday, January 9, in the Johnson Center, winning by twenty-seven points in what could be the best game Oakland City has played thus far this season.

After giving up the first basket of the game, and trading baskets for some time after that, the Mighty Oaks gained a nine point advantage at 20-11 with thirteen minutes to play in the first half. OCU pushed the lead to fifteen at halftime at 45-30 thanks to Josh Wilmes's 14 points on 7-8 shooting from the field and Nate Schumacher's seven points and nine rebounds.

The second half saw Oakland City steadily increase their lead behind Josh Maggard's eight assists in the second half alone and Brandon Hopf's 15 second-half points. The Cougars were held in check all game, managing to connect on a mere 38 percent of their field goal attempts while turning the ball over twenty times.

The Mighty Oaks were led in scoring for the game by Brandon Hopf with 18, followed by Josh Wilmes and Jared Maners with 16 points each and Nate Schumacher who added 12 to go with his 17 rebounds, matching his season high. Josh Maggard finished the game with eight points while dishing out a season high 12 assists and tying the OCU record with 8 steals in one game, a record he now holds with former Oakland City standout Mervyn Clarke.

Next up for the Mighty Oaks is Central Christian College of the Bible on Wednesday, January 13, in the Johnson Center. Tip off is scheduled for 7:00 pm and the game is being sponsored by Applebee's in Princeton, Indiana.
