Oakland City, IN - Oakland City hosted Urbana University for Homecoming/Hall-of-Fame day at the Johnson Center Saturday, January 16, losing by the final score of 80-70. It is the last home game on the schedule for the Lady Oaks for quite some time as they begin a seven game road trip over the next month.

The Lady Oaks trailed by as many as fifteen points in the second half, a lead the Lady Blue Knights held at 27-12 after thirteen minutes of action. The Lady Oaks chipped away at the lead, cutting it to a managable six points at halftime at 35-29.

The Lady Blue Knights pushed the lead to eleven points as they opened the second half on a 7-2 scoring run. Urbana continued to build on their lead, increasing it to as many as twenty-five points before the Lady Oaks were able to get back into the game. Oakland City, after trailing by their largest deficit of the game at 65-40, went on a 17-4 scoring run to cut the lead to twelve with just over four minutes remaining on the clock.

Urbana responded quickly, four of the next five points, but back to back jumpers by Kristi McVey and solid defence brought the scoring differential back to single digits at 74-65 with less than two minutes to play. An old fashioned three point play by McVey cut the lead to seven points with just under one minute to play, but the Lady Oaks would not score again and would end up losing by ten at 80-70.

Leading the way for the Lady Oaks in scoring was Kristi McVey with 22 points. She also led the team in steals with three and assists with three. Ali Pia, before going down with a neck injury with just under four minutes to play, scored 21 points to go along with her team high eight rebounds. Kayla Sutton and Sam Stahl each added eight points. Urbana was led by Andrea Vogel with 17 points, six rebounds and two blocked shots.

The Lady Oaks return to action on the road as the travel to take on Brescia Tuesday, January 19, at 6:00 pm.
