Oakland City Routs Knoxville for Ninth Straight WinApril 19, 2010 at 3:59 PM
Oakland City, IN - The Mighty Oaks hosted the Knoxville College Bulldogs in the Johnson Center on Wednesday, February 3, exactly one year after beating them 106-90. Knoxville, trying to rebuild their program after having cancelled it earlier in the year, lost by the final score of 102-45.
The Oaks opened the game with a 21-7 scoring run and never looked back as the visiting Bulldogs were never able to even tie the game after the opening tip. The Mighty Oaks were able to increase their lead to 22 at 35-13, but the Bulldogs went on a small 5-0 run to cut the lead to 17. Oakland City responded by going on an 18-7 run to close out the first half with a twenty-eight point advantage at 53-25.
The second half saw the Mighty Oaks open by scoring the first sixteen points of the half to push their lead to 44 with just over thirteen minutes remaining. Knoxville was unable to make any significant push in the game as they were held to a dismal 30.3% shooting from the field along with a 15.4% from the free throw line. This compared to Oakland City's 52.6% field goal percentage and a season-best 91.7% from the line.
The Mighty Oaks were led in scoring by Brandon Hopf with 22 as he makes his run at 1,000 points in an Oaks uniform. He now stands at 975 points for his Mighty Oak career. Nate Schumacher scored 16 points while pulling down a game-high 20 rebounds. Craig Parks came off the bench to score 14 points and Jared Maners added 11. Josh Maggard scored 8 points while leading the game in assists with 11 while snatching a team-high 2 steals and blocking one shot. Every Mighty Oaks scored, except for Brett Wilson. Mo Kane and Alfredo Aquino each tallied 6 points on 2-4 shooting off the bench. Knoxville was led in scoring by Raymond Jones with 21 points. Leon Boddie, Jr. scored 12 points while pulling down a team-high 10 rebounds.
Next up for the Mighty Oaks is Urbana University on Saturday, February 6, in Urbana Ohio. The game is scheduled to tip off at 3:00 pm. Oakland City edged out Urbana 80-74 on January 16, in the Johnson Center.
