Oakland City Drops First Home Game of the SeasonApril 13, 2010 at 4:31 PM
Oakland City, IN - The Mighty Oaks hosted the Tornados of Bevard College Wednesday night in the Johnson Center, 74-63. Amore Pizza sponsored the game and free pizzas were given away during timeouts.
Oakland City scored the first five points of the game and led by as many as nine points in the first half, but Brevard was able to outscore the Oaks 15-3 to close out the first half with a two point lead at 28-26. The Tornados stretched the lead to five early in the second half before a pair of free throws by Brandon Hopf and two jumpers, one by Craig Parks and another by Hopf, brought the lead back to the home team at 41-40. The lead was shortlived, however, and Brevard was able to close out the game, holding the Oaks without a field goal in the final four minutes and finishing the game on a 10-2 run. Brevard won the game by eleven, the final score being 74-63.
The Mighty Oaks were led in scoring by Hopf with 17 points, followed by Craig Parks and Nate Schumacher with 11 and Jared Maners with 10. Maners and Schumacher each tallied a double-double for the Oaks as Maners dished out 10 assists and Schumacher pulled down a game high 15 rebounds to lead the team for the thirteenth consecutive game, dating back to last season. The Tornados were led in scoring by Josh Roper with 23 points, followed by Jonathan Whitson who scored a double-double of his own with 15 points and 13 boards.
The Oaks fall to 6-5 on the season. They next travel to Huntsville, Alabama, to face the University of Alabama-Huntsville Saturday, January 2, at 7:00 pm, before returning home to face World Harvest January 5 at 7:00 pm in the Johnson Center.
