Oakland City, IN - The Oakland City men's basketball team cruised to an easy victory Wednesday, February 24, in the Johnson Center, beating St. Louis Christian College by the score of 86-52. The Oaks committed only nine fouls and held the Soldiers to just under 35% shooting for the game.
Senior Nate Schumacher scored the first four points of the game, but St. Louis Christian ralllied to take a one point lead at 6-7 early in the first half. The teams traded baskets until the Oaks went on a 10-2 scoring run to open up a double digit lead they would never give up as Samuel Lee, one of only two Soldiers over 6'2", got into early foul trouble.
In the second half, the Oaks went on a 30-10 run to put the game out of reach for good, thanks to hot shooting from Jared Maners and solid play under the basket from seniors Nate Schumacher and Brandon Hopf.
The leading scorer in the game was Jared Maners with 25 points in only 26 minutes of play. Nate Schumacher scored 20 points while pulling down a game-high 18 rebounds. Brandon Hopf tallied 15 points and Josh Wilmes added 10 points to go with his game-high four steals. Wilmes and Maners each dished out 6 assists to lead the game. St. Louis Christian College was led in scoring by Ricky Graham with 14 points, followed by Samuel Lee, who scored 11 while pulling down a team-high 9 boards while limitted to just 20 minutes due to fould trouble.
The Oaks next face Temple Baptist in the Johnson Center Saturday, February 27, at 3:00 pm. Saturday's game is Senior Day, recognizing the seven seniors on the Oaks' roster as they play their last regular season game in the Johnson Center.
