Mighty Oaks Win Big On Integra Bank NightApril 13, 2010 at 4:30 PM
Oakland City, IN - Oakland City hosted the Hilltoppers from Ohio University-Chillicothe Saturday afternoon in the Johnson Center, winning by a final score of 105-69. Coach Sandifar said about the game, "This is probably the best our team has played so far this year. We have come a long way, and we have a long way left to go, but we are making significant progress in the right direction."
The Mighty Oaks began the game by scoring the first seven points and had built an eleven point lead at 16-5 before the Hilltoppers started to get into the flow of the game. OU-Chillicothe climbed back into contention, cutting the lead to five points at 32-27 with just over five minutes to play in the first half, but Oakland City we on a 24-6 run to close out the half with a twenty-three point advantage.
The second half saw the Mighty Oaks push the lead even higher, reaching fourty-six at 94-48 with eight minutes to play in the game. The Hilltoppers were able to take advantage of missed shots and turnovers to cut the lead to 33 with just under a minute remaining, but Alfredo Aquino's three point basket capped off a good shooting afternoon for the Mighty Oaks and they went on to win 105-69.
All five starters scored in double figures for the Oaks who were led by Jared Maners with 21 points, followed by Josh Wilmes with 17, Nate Schumacher with 15, Brandon Hopf with 12 and Josh Maggard with 11. Schumacher and Hopf led the team with eight rebounds each. Maggard dished out seven assists and Wilmes assisted on six of the Mighty Oaks baskets. The Hilltoppers were led by Josh Kellough and Shannon Kohn with 16 and 15 points respectively. Nick Milliken led OU-Chillicothe in rebounding with seven.
The Mighty Oaks return to action in the Johnson Center as they take on Brevard Wednesday, December 30, at 7:00 pm.
