Mighty Oaks Continue to Win, Maggard Resets Own RecordApril 13, 2010 at 4:34 PM
Oakland City, IN - Oakland City hosted the Saints from Central Christian College of the Bible Wednesday, January 13, in the Johnson Center. Josh Maggard, who previously tied the school record with 8 steals in their last game, put a new school record in the books by recording 11 steals as the Mighty Oaks won easily 104-65.
Brandon Hopf scored 13 and Josh Wilmes scored 12 points in the first half to help the Mighty Oaks to a 47-34 halftime lead over the visiting Saints. Central Christian Junior gaurd Reggie Evans scored 21 of his team's 34 points in the half thanks to 6-14 shooting from the field and a perfect 4-4 from the free throw line.
OCU held Evans to only five second half points as the Mighty Oaks pulled away in the second half behind a blistering 61.5 percent shooting and a streak of eleven consecutive made free throws. Brandon Hopf was the leading scorer for the Oaks, tallying 26 points while pulling down 11 rebounds. Nate Schumacher again led OCU in rebounding with 13 while scoring 17 points. Josh Wilmes finished the game with 14 points and Jared Maners added 10. Josh Maggard, though he didn't score a point, tallied a double-double by dishing out 10 assists and racking up a school record 11 steals. Maggard's 11 steals ranks him second in the nation in the NCAA D-II for most steals in a game this season.
Next up for the Mighty Oaks is Urbana University Saturday, January 16, at 3:00 pm. Saturday's game is Homecoming where members of the 1960 NAIA National team will be recognized along with the three newly inducted members of the Oakland City University Athletic Hall of Fame.
