Mighty Oaks Advance to Semi-Finals of CCIT by Beating Ecclesia College 85-70

Oakland City University matched up against the Royals of Ecclesia College on Monday night in the Johnson Center, a berth in the 2012 Christian College Invitational Tournament semi-finals on the line. After leading by just one point at 42-41 at the half, the Oaks were able to pull away late in the game to come out 85-70 victors. The win puts them in line to face Rhema Bible College, who won their game 85-75 over Indiana Dabney University.

Maurice Fuller and Eric Head each tallied a double-double in the game for the Oaks, who were led in scoring by Mitch Stahl's 24 points. Head notched 18 points to go with a game high 14 rebounds, while Fuller put in 13 points and grabbed 10 misses. Kendall Wittmer and Billy Newton both came off the bench to score 10 points. Cameron LeFear and Fuller each had six assists to tie for the game high.

The Royals were led in scoring by Jason Holmstrom, who shot 9-16 from the field to score 19 points. Levi Roberts added 15 points, followed by 12 points from Brandon Brzozkiewicz and 11 counters from David Eichler. Brzozkiewicz led the team in rebounding and assists, pulling down eight missed shots and handing out four helpers.

For the game, OCU shot 29-62 (46.8%) from the field, including 8-23 (34.8%) from beyond the three point line, and made 19-28 (67.9%) from the foul line. The Royals shot 25-65 (38.5%) from the floor, making 7-22 (31.8%) of their three point tries, and hit 13-17 (76.5%) from the charity stripe.

The Oaks held a 48-33 advantage in rebounding, including a 15-9 lead on the offensive glass. OCU handed out 19 assists while turning the ball over 11 times, versus 12 assists and seven turnovers by the Royals.

Next up for the Mighty Oaks will be the Eagles of Rhema Bible College with a trip to the championship game on the line. Game time is set for 7:00 PM CST in the Johnson Center.
