Lady Oaks Down Marauders in Final Regular Season GameApril 19, 2010 at 2:37 PM
Oakland City, IN- The Oakland City women's basketball team won their final regular season game on Tuesday, February 23, in the Johnson Center as they beat the Central State Marauders by the score of 87-79. The win moved them to 9-15 on the season, thanks to victories in their final two games.
The Lady Oaks opened the game with a 15-2 scoring run, but the Marauders climbed back into the game, tying the score at 28-28 with twenty seconds remaining in the half. Sarah Roth missed a jumper, but Rachel Moore tipped in the ball as the buzzer sounded to give Oakland City a two point half-time lead.
Central State took their first lead of the game early in the first half, but the Lady Oaks battled back with a 9-0 run to take the lead back. The Marauders were never able to get the lead back thanks to the Lady Oaks forcing Central State into 21 turnovers. Oakland City increased the lead to as many as 15 points, a lead they held at 78-63 with four minutes left to play, but the Marauders cut the lead to only eight with 1:30 left of the clock. Sam Stahl hit two jumpers and two free throws coming down the stretch and Rachel Moore put the game out of reach by hitting two free throws with twenty seconds left, as the Lady Oaks went on to witn, 87-79.
Five Lady Oaks scored in double figures led by Sam Stahl, who scored 20 points. Ali Pia added 16, Rachel Moore and Berna Miranda 15, and Kristi McVey, playing her final game in Lady Oaks' home white, scored 11. Sarah Roth scored 8 while dishing out a game-high five assists. Moore led the team in rebounding with 9 boards. Central State was led in scoring by Linda Ubadigbo with 22.
