Lady Oaks Beat St. Joseph's in ThrillerApril 19, 2010 at 2:21 PM
Oakland City jumped out to 12-5 lead before St. Joseph's brought the score back to even at thirty with just under five minutes remaining in the first half. Oakland City responded with a run of their own to take an eight point halftime lead at 44-36.
St. Joseph's started the second half by cutting the lead down to two points at 50-48 but the Lady Oaks responded with a 13-0 run to push the lead to fifteen. The Pumas chipped away slowly, bringing the lead down to four with just under thirty seconds remaining, but solid free throw shooting by Kristi McVey and Ali Pia helped the Lady Oaks hold on to win 98-91.
Leading the way for the Lady Oaks was senior Kristi McVey with 22 points and 12 rebounds. Starting for the second straight game, Ali Pia added 20 points, including 10-12 from the free throw stripe to go with her 9 rebounds. Samantha Stahl added 17 points while freshman Sarah Roth chipped in with 11 points of her own. Kayla Sutton came off the bench to tally a team high six assists. The Pumas were led in scoring by Tatiana Ortiz who scored 30 points while dishing out a game high seven assists.
The Lady Oaks next game is scheduled for Saturday, December 5th, against Lindsey Wilson in the Johnson Center. Tip off is set at 1:00 pm.
