Curt Uebelhor Art Exhibit at Oakland City University
Current work of Curt Uebelhor, Boonville Junior High School art instructor, will be on exhibit in the Dunn Gallery at Oakland City University between January 9 and February 24, 2012. Mr. Uebelhor is very well known in this area as an exhibiting artist and teacher. He is a graduate of the University of Southern Indiana (l981) and has a Master of Fine Arts in sculpture from Southern Illinois University, Edwardsville, Illinois (l987). Having been associated with the New Harmony Gallery of Contemporary Art for several years he often focuses upon contemporary educational and social issues as inspiration for comment via the arts. He always incorporates humor into his work as a way to get the viewer more involved in the pieces and the ideas they depict. A large sculpture, The Cult of Personality, currently being shown was recently exhibited at the New Harmony Gallery of Contemporary Art in a show honoring retiring USI art professor, Lennie Dowhie. Initially the sculpture’s center had two pictures of Professor Dowhie. These have now been replaced with two conglomerate pictures. One is a combination of Barack Obama, Newt Gingrich and Mitt Romney and the other a mix of Lady Gaga, Kim Kardashian, and Michelle Bachmann. Included are other works that deal with the environment and selected social issues. A reception and gallery talk will be presented between 4 and 6 PM (CST) on Monday, January 16 in the gallery. The Dunn Gallery is located at the corner of Williams and Lucretia Streets in the Cornwell-Reed Arts Center on the campus of Oakland City University. Gallery hours are from 10 AM to 5 PM Mondays through Fridays. Visitors are welcome.
