Oakland City, IN- The Lady Oaks led the game by two at 16-14, but the Lindsey Wilson Blue Raiders went on a 8-0 run. Oakland City battled back to again take the lead at 24-23. Again the Blue Raiders went on a run to close out the half with a six point lead at 41-35.
The second half opened with a three pointer by Lindsey Wilson's Michelle Copley which was quickly answered by a six point run by the home team. The Blue Raiders, however, went on a run of their own to open up a 14 point advantage, thanks to back to back three pointers by Valentina Cora with just over eleven minutes remaining in the period.
The Lady Oaks slowly clawed their way back into the game, but the Blue Raiders held on to an eleven point advantage with just over two minutes left to play. Freshman Berna Miranda hit a three pointer followed almost immediately by a steal and layup by freshman Sarah Roth. Missed free throws by Lindsey Wilson, along with a three point basket by Sam Stahl and another jumber by Roth allowed the Oaks to trail by only three point with thirty second to go.
Diondra Anthony was put at the line to shoot two free throws to put the game away for the Blue Raiders with fifteen seconds on the clock. She missed both of them and when Roth got the rebound she passed it to Miranda at half court. With nine seconds left Miranda's pass went off of Roth's fingers and out of bounds ending with it the Lady Oaks' chances. The final score was 82-79 in favor of the visiting Blue Raiders.
Leading the way for the Lady Oaks was Samantha Stahl with a season high 26 points. Berna Miranda came off the bench to score 12 while Kayla Sutton scored 11 to go with her team high nine rebounds. The Blue Raiders were led in scoring by Bethany Spillman with 21. Viktoria Krell chipped in 19 and Lindsey Waters tallied a double-double with ten points and 11 rebounds.
The Lady Oaks play again Tuesday in the Johnson Center against Kentucky Wesleyan. Tip off is scheduled for 7:00 pm.
