2010 Home Opener Sees Easy VictoryApril 13, 2010 at 3:56 PM
The Mighty Oaks played well on opening day in the Johnson Center Saturday afternoon, beating Ohio State University-Mansfield 124-66.
In a solid first half effort, in which Oakland city trailed only twice and each time by only one point, senior Nathan Schumacher tallied a double-double with 13 points and 10 rebounds. The Oaks went into halftime with a 63-34 lead and never looked back.
The Mighty Oaks had six players score in double figures. Sophomore Zach Adams led the way with 20 points to go with a game high three steels. Schumacher finished the game with 19 points and 15 rebounds. Senior Josh Wilmes, returning to action after missing the first game of the season, scored 18 points on 7-12 shooting including 4-7 from beyond the arc. Hunter Elliott (15 points), Brandon Hopf (13 points), and Jared Maners (13 poitns) rounded out the double figure scorers. Maners also chipped in with a game high 12 assists to go along with his seven rebounds.
The Mansfield Mavericks were led in scoring by Tim Stalkolich with 25 points and Sam Barnhill with 20. Curtis Remy scored 10 for the Mavericks to go along with his 7 assists.
The Oaks are scheduled to face BYU-Hawaii November 25th and 28th before returning home to face Principia December 2nd at 7:00 pm.
