Vice President for Development

Giving to Oakland City University

Development
The Oakland City University family is deeply grateful for the generosity of our alumni and friends, whose philanthropy makes possible the continued success of the University and impacts the spiritual, intellectual and economic growth of the people in our state, region and nation. Without the support of these donors, the more than 120 year history of academic excellence would not have been possible.

The role of the University Office of Development is to provide assistance to all Oakland City University donors in planning and accomplishing their individual philanthropic wishes.

Annual Giving
Since the establishment of the University in 1885, tuition has been kept affordable making a Christian education available to as many people as possible. Historically, Oakland City University tuition has been among the lowest of the independent Colleges and Universities in Indiana. Typical of such schools, tuition at Oakland City University covers about 60 percent of the annual operating budget. The balance to meet budget needs, therefore, must come from the gifts of alumni, churches, businesses and friends. Because of donor generosity, the University has not experienced a deficit annual audit in more than 30 years.

Each year fund raising activities include personal appeals, mailings to alumni and friends and a phonothon. The phonothon is a two-week effort by student and alumni volunteers to reach as many potential donors as possible to discuss opportunities to strengthen Oakland City University and make a difference in the lives of Oakland City University students.

Some of the areas that these unrestricted gifts benefit are:

• Undergraduate and graduate scholarships
• Library funds
• Enhanced high school and adult recruitment
• Technology upgrades for computer labs and study areas
• Art exhibits, music recitals and athletic events including intramural and intercollegiate sports

Benefits of Giving
Your gift, regardless of the amount, matters. Contributions are used to develop the God-given abilities of promising students through scholarship assistance, encourage faculty in further developing their teaching skills and helping to equip as many classrooms and labs as possible with state-of-the-art equipment and much, much more. As a donor, you play a vital role in maintaining the Oakland City University academic excellence for generations to come.

How and What to Give
In addition to check and credit card gifts, Oakland City University also will assist in receiving the following types of donations:

• Securities such as stocks, bonds, insurance policies, and retirement accounts
• Corporate matching gifts
• Real Estate and other gifts-in-kind
