Fincancial Aid
Masters of Art in Teaching (MAT) 2008-2009
Federal financial aid is available to eligible graduate students in
the form of Federal Direct Loans. The Master of Arts in Teaching
Program consists of four consecutive semesters. Graduate students apply
for student loans one time only for their entire *program. Students
receive a loan disbursement for each of the first three semesters of
their program.

Although Option Programs in MAT consist of 4 consecutive semesters,
there will be no loan for the final 2009 summer semester. (Refunds
should be saved to help pay for the balance of this final semester.) |
*This information is based on a student enrolling in and
continuing nonstop through the entire program.
**Semesters are based on enrollment in a 36 or 39 hours MAT
Option Program.
Students apply by completing the 2008-2009 Free Application
for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). Students must also complete Entrance
Counseling, the OCU Direct Loan Request Form, and a Master Promissory
Note (MPN) for the Department of Education. In addition, students must
submit an advisor signed copy of all required courses necessary to complete
their degree to the Financial Aid Office. Students should contact their
advisor, JoAnn Layman, MAT Director, to request their course
list.
Finally, student borrowers must complete Exit Counseling
when their program has been completed (or when a student’s enrollment
status becomes less than half-time).
A WORD ABOUT DIRECT LOAN DEADLINES
The deadline
to apply for federal loans for the 2008-2009 academic year
is August 29, 2008. Students
have the responsibility to ensure that all required financial aid documents,
forms, and applications have been submitted to the Financial Aid Office.
This means that student borrowers must have all loan forms submitted to the Financial Aid Office on or before
the above date. THERE ARE NO EXCEPTIONS
TO THIS DEADLINE.
We are sorry to announce that the new TEACH Grant will not be made available for the 2008-2009 academic year. Due to the obligation of the student to repay this as an unsubsidized Direct Loan should the student fail to meet all of the requirements, we feel it is in the best interests of our students that we not participate in this program at this time. This is a new grant, and there are still many issues, questions, and clarification that need to be addressed by the Department. We hope to offer this grant at a later date.
