AEL Financial Aid

Financial aid is available to AEL students through federal and state programs. Federal and State Awards are subject to all Title IV Federal financial aid regulations. Students apply for the federal and state programs by filing the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) form. A university grant for General Baptist students is also available. AEL students are not eligible for university scholarships.

Questions about applying for financial assistance should be referred to the Office of Financial Aid at (812) 749-1224.

FREE APPLICATION FOR FEDERAL STUDENT AID (FAFSA)

To be considered for state financial aid, the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) must be received by the Federal Processing Center on or before the filing deadline. See the AEL financial aid calendar below for deadline information.

To file the FAFSA: complete the form online.

  • To file the FAFSA online, go to http://fafsa.ed.gov. When filing online, a student may request a personal identification number (PIN) to sign his or her application electronically, or a student may print out a signature page, sign it, and mail it to the Department. Instructions are available on the FAFSA website.

Note: Your PIN number serves as your personal identifier. Keep it private and safe to guard against identity theft. Do not share your PIN number with any other individual, the Financial Aid Office, or any other administrative office.

The Oakland City University School Code for use on the FAFSA is 001824.

Once your FAFSA is processed, Oakland City University will receive your processed information in a Student Aid Report (SAR). The electronic version of the SAR is referred to as Institutional Student Information Records (ISIR).

Your ISIR may or may not be selected by the Department of Education for a process called verification. If it is, Oakland City University will request documentation from you to verify your report.

Once the verification process is complete, or if verification of your ISIR is not required, you will receive an Award Letter from the OCU Financial Aid Office showing the type and amounts of financial aid you are eligible to receive.

DEFERRED PAYMENT PLAN

While all charges and fees are due and payable on the first day of each semester, the student may elect to defer the balance of his or her account—after all financial assistance is deducted—into two payments. One half of this balance will be due on the first day of the semester, and the final half will be due approximately thirty days later. Interest at the rate of 18 percent per year will be applied to any unpaid balance at the end of the thirty day period, until the account is paid in full.

AEL FINANCIAL AID REFUND POLICY

In case of voluntary withdrawal or dismissal from the university or an individual course, tuition and fees are charged according to the following schedule:

During the first week 25%
During the second week 50%
After the second week 100%

Students who withdraw completely from the university or from individual classes and have financial assistance may be required to repay a portion of that aid, depending on the date of withdrawal and the regulations of the programs included in the financial aid package. If a student is entitled to a refund from a student loan, the student will receive a full refund if he or she withdraws from a class up to 10 business days after the first day of class. If a student is entitled to a refund from a grant, the student will receive a full refund if he or she withdraws from a class up to 14 business days after the first day of class.
