Grants

The general eligibility requirements for federal and state grants are different for students of the School of Adult and Extended Learning (SAEL) than for traditional students. All information here pertains to AEL students.

Federal and state grants are subject to all Title IV federal financial aid regulations. Eligibility for grants is determined by the Federal Needs Analysis. To apply, complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) form. For more information about FAFSA, see Tuition and Financial Aid.

For answers to questions about applying for grants, contact the Office of Financial Aid at (812) 749-1224.

STATE GRANTS FOR AEL STUDENTS

The State Student Assistance Commission of Indiana (SSACI) offers grants to students who are Indiana residents enrolled full time in the fall and spring semesters. Eligibility is based on data the student discloses on the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). The FAFSA must be received by the federal processor by March 10 and be error-free by May 15th.

Military students should note that state aid is based on tuition rate; since military students' OCU tuition rate is lower, state aid amounts will be lower than those shown here. Contact the OCU Office of Financial Aid at (812) 749-1436 for more information.

These SSACI grants are offered to students in the SAEL accelerated programs.

Frank O'Bannon Indiana Higher Education Award

This award of up to $3,100 per year is provided to Indiana residents through the State Student Assistance Commission of Indiana for undergraduate students who demonstrate financial need. It is applied only to the cost of tuition.

Frank O’Bannon Twenty-first Century Scholarship Award

This award is granted through the State Student Assistance commission of Indiana.  To be eligible for this award the student must have applied and been income eligible during his or her sixth, seventh or eighth grade year of school.  If a student meets all of the Indiana Higher Education’s criteria the state will reimburse OCU for a portion of the student’s tuition.  OCU will then provide the remaining tuition charges for a Twenty-first Century Scholars Recipient if he or she meets the university’s admission requirements.  Indiana residents’ FAFSA must be received by the Central Processing Center before March10.

Freedom of Choice Grant

The Freedom of Choice Grant of $200 to $5,628 for 2008-2009 is available to undergraduates who are enrolled full time in the fall and spring semesters. The student and his or her parent(s) (if student is a dependent) must be legal residents of Indiana and remain so during the academic year. The student must show financial need according to program rules. The student must be an undergraduate working on an associate degree or first bachelor degree, maintain satisfactory academic progress, not be in default or overpayment, and meet the specific requirements of the chosen college.

The Academic Honors and Core 40 Diploma Grants are awarded based on state grant formulas. Eligible students must have graduated high school with Academic Honors or a Core 40 diploma and a cumulative GPA of 3.0 on 4.0 scale.
