Doctor of Education in Leadership (Ed.D.)

Bart McCandless, PH. D, Interim Dean of School of Education

Purpose and Scope
Oakland City University's Doctorate in Educational Leadership program is designed to meet the needs of leaders who are designed to make decisions, who are responsible for policy decisions, and who are already employed as administrators.

The Ed.D. is a professional terminal degree that requires students to engage in a highly rigorous process of research, inquiry, and site-based practice that not only includes the typical dissertation but also an extensive internship with an action research practicum.

In order for the educational community to prepare for the world of tomorrow, it must employ highly equipped leaders who are well prepared to deal with problems facing organizations, including schools and society. This program looks at educational leadership within the context of organizational renewal. Such leadership focuses on common values among professionals within an organization, a vision of what education ought to be, and the pursuit of higher order institutional and personal goals. The ultimate purpose of leadership is nothing less than to bring about positive change in organizations.

Please check back for more information concerning this program or contact Karen Bailey at 812-749-1385, or Bart McCandless, PH D as interim Dean of School of Education at 812-749-1378 or bmccandless@oak.edu.
