Former OCU President, Dr. James W. Murray Passes

Dr. James W. Murray, Executive Director for General Baptist Ministries, 2010-2012, passed from this life on Friday, October 5, 2012.
Dr. Murray previously served as President of Oakland City University, 1974-2007. For 65 years he served as a General Baptist Minister.
In recognition of his retirement from the position of Executive Director and in honor of his 65 years of service as a General Baptist Minister, Dr. Murray was honored at a Life Time Achievement Luncheon at this year's Mission & Ministry Summit. He described his personal situation in a video interview with these words:
"It's been glorious. Oh, it's been glorious. I told someone just the other day I feel like I'm somewhere between third base and home and I'm in a dead run and I'm going to slide across home plate into the arms of Jesus. What a hallelujah moment!"
Dr. Murray will lie in state at the Murray Center on the campus of Oakland City University Tuesday, October 9 from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. A memorial service will be held at Oakland City University in the Johnson Center on Wednesday, October 10 at 1:30 p.m.
Dr. Murray would surely echo the words of Paul when he wrote: "I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith: Henceforth there is laid up for me a crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous judge, shall give me at that day: and not to me only, but unto all them also that love his appearing." 2 Timothy 4:7-8
