OCU Upward Bound Goes to State House
Oakland City University Upward Bound students Joey Morris, Cassandra Ernst from Heritage Hills, Andrea Gonzales, Jed Oldham, Cameron Green from Wood Memorial and Heather and Megan Morrison from Tecumseh High Schools attended the 3rd annual TRiO Student Leadership Conference in Indianapolis on
March 21st and 22nd. The students met with keynote speaker Dean Ballotti, Student Support Services Director from Purdue University, toured the State House and were able to sit in on a House Committee Meeting.
The second day the students participated in legislative problem solving exercises focusing on how to negotiate with legislators while advocating for your educational needs. They then met with State Senator Ron Alting (Lafayette) in the Senate Gallery for a question and answer session. The conference concluded with a presentation and question and answer session with the Honorable Judge Carr L. Darden in the Supreme Court Chambers.
