An OCU Soccer Player
By Kelsey Dossett
Something that was my goal since I was little was to play college soccer. I never thought I would end up at Oakland City where I am playing soccer. This soccer season was quite the experience. A new coach, meeting new players, higher level of play, and a different format, but I enjoyed every bit of it. I was the only incoming freshman on the team so the upper classmen made it a little difficult on me.
Having a new coach is basically like having all new players. The coach has to learn where his players play their best and what they need to improve. Coach made me realize this season that I can play anywhere on the field. I was just a one position player until this past season. I pretty much played every position on the field. He made me have more confidence on the field, and I realized I have more talent then what I thought I had.
There is a big difference in playing high school soccer compared to college soccer. The pace of the game was much quicker and the talent that the players on different teams had was awesome. I noticed every player has their own unique style of play. I think I seem to get into the games more this year than I ever have. I could read the game so well especially the through balls.
At the beginning, it was a little tough because I was the only freshman on the team. I had to make friends and try to fit in. To me it seemed like they pushed me and got on to me more so I would do my best. The running at times was very hard and I had to push myself. I came prepared though I ran a lot over the summer. My experience overall was fun and enjoyable. I would do it all over again if I had to.
