Hey guys! So glad you are checking out OCU and all it has to offer. Today was another busy day. Life is so crazy, and I never seem to have any spare time. I am trying to find something to do for myself and hoping this blogging (something I’ve never done before) could be it. We’ll see!
I just got married this summer to my husband, Ian. We both live in Dearing Hall, the upperclassmen men’s dorm, and we are the resident directors there. So far so good! The guys are cool, and we enjoy living there. We like it here at OCU. We both have academic scholarships and are busy with Student Government Association, being resident directors, working, and being in charge of the children and youth ministries at our church.
Life is pretty normal here in Oakland City, but that doesn’t mean it’s boring, easy, or stress-free. It’s definitely none of those things. I don’t really know if what I am saying is something you want to read or not. Anyways, I’m sure you are pretty much thinking that I am crazy and should stop talking about myself and give you some info. about OCU now…….so I WILL!
OCU is…
In a small town
Small, Christian campus
30 min. from Evansville (which is nice if you’re someone that’s used to the city)
One-on-one time with teachers
Teachers genuinely care about you and know your name
Awesome education program!
Student activities such as Free Movie Night at the Princeton Theatre, Free Bowling, Free Paoli Peaks (a skiing and snowboarding place), Free Amore’s Pizza (a sweet pizza joint in downtown Oakland City), and a lot more that I just can’t think of right now
No co-ed dorms, but there are visiting hours for guests
A lot of people from different countries, which is cool
If you live on campus, live in the dorms, and are not a resident director (like Ian and me) then you have to pay for the meal plan, which means eating in the cafeteria
Many OCU clubs
Lots of sporting events on campus
So there’s just a bit about OCU from my point of view. You might be asking why I came here? It’s close to my hometown, and it’s a Christian campus. It has an awesome education program, and I also have an academic scholarship. Here’s a bit of advice from me…
If you only like the city life, then you won’t like it here. This town is small, even though we usually always end up finding something fun to do anyways. And Evansville isn’t too far away either. There are tons of scholarships available…so apply! They help out so much! If you like to party, it’s probably not a good idea to come here: it’s a Christian campus, and it’s not allowed. Don’t procrastinate! Work hard and keep your mind set on your goal! Let God lead you on your journey in life.
….that’s all for now!
Until next time,
Katie
