Well, we’re only one month into second semester, and I’m already ready for warm weather!!! We have seen a lot more snow on campus than we did last year (which is always fun) but it’s about time to see the sunshine! Spring break is just around the corner, and everyone’s already talking about their plans to travel south where it’s warmer, so it only makes it harder to wait for warm weather!!! Oh, guess I should introduce myself, huh? My name is Alisha, and I am a freshman here at OCU. I’m double majoring in Elementary and Special Education. I’m currently a member of the cross country team, cheerleading squad, and Student Ambassadors. Although I don’t live on campus, I still know a lot about what’s going on.
I’ve been raised in this town my whole life, and I’m as involved as I can be at OCU. I bet you’re wondering why I didn’t leave home for college? I ask myself that question all the time…just kidding! I can have as much fun here at OCU as I could at any other college, if not more. It’s so easy to be involved and make friends here!!! I am definitely a people person, and OCU is the perfect place to form great relationships with people.
If you don’t like the small classroom atmosphere, then this place is not for you. I, on the other hand, love it. As a future educator, I have realized the best way I learn is through one-on-one teacher/student time. I have to be able to ask questions in class and feel comfortable enough to do so. Need to talk to your professor? Walk on over during office hours and go right in. They will most likely know your first name and make you feel as comfortable as if you were talking to a friend. Your advisors truly are your advisors: they know you by name, not a number. They are willing to help you throughout the year with ANY problems you have, not just to schedule your classes.
This really is a great place to learn, and I don’t regret coming here. I know I’m going to walk away with a quality education and great hands-on experiences. I’ve already gotten 10 hours of education observations under my belt, and I’m only a freshman. The awesome staff and classroom atmosphere is just one aspect of why I love OCU. There’s so much more to talk about like sports, clubs, and other fun events, but I will save that for future blogs. Until next time!!!
