Oakland City University's golf team has competed in the National Tournament four times. Coached by Mikel Breeden, the Mighty Oaks golf team's matches are played in September and October during the Fall season, and in March and April during the Spring season.
The Oakland City University men's golf team returns six players from the 2012-13 campaign, while adding four newcomers to the team's roster. The top returning players from last season include Alex Manion, Brad Douglas, and Andrew Curl. Manion played in all ten tournament rounds for the OCU squad last season, while Douglas and Curl participated in nine each.
Newcomers to the 2013-14 edition of the OCU golf team are Garth Fenney, who played for OCU from 2009-11, and Miquel Larocque, a freshman from Naughton, Ontario, Canada. Alex Portee and Logan Mohr, both seniors, join the team after playing baseball for the Oaks.
Fenney qualified for the NCCAA National Tournament in 2011, his last season as a Mighty Oak before this year.
The Mighty Oaks will kick off their 2013-14 campaign on Thursday, August 29, in the "Battle at Bloomington" tournament, hosted by Indiana University-East on the Indiana University Golf Course in Bloomington, Indiana.
The Oakland City men's golf team has qualified for the National Christian College Athletic Association Division-I National Tournament, held October 11-12 at Edgewater Beach Resort, Hombre Golf Course, in Panama City, Florida. The Mighty Oaks team, consisting of seniors Phillip Riggs and Ryan Boone, junior Ryan Jenner and sophomores Mitch Oard and Garth Finney, will travel to the tournament on Saturday, October 9 and will return Wednesday, October 13. It is the first time the OCU golf team has qualified for the tournament since 2006.
