College 90 OT (Summary below) * Emmanuel College Finished 7th in the Tournament
Bethany Lutheran College 92 - Greenville College 90 OT Greenville and Bethany Lutheran battled even for 8 1/2 minutes and were deadlocked 11-11 when Greenville went on a 14-2 run over the next 4 minutes. With the score 25-13 in favor of Greenville, it looked like the Panthers were in control of it all. Playing even the rest of the half showed Greenville leading 38-27 at the break. The second half played a little different. Coach Klockziem brought her charges out for the second half with a different approach and the battle was on. Chipping away slowly the Panthers finally tied the score 50-50 with 10:29 to play. Outside shooting, inside dominance on the boards, and a lot of hustle took the Bethany Lutheran "five" to a 5-point lead down the stretch. Tricia Dreage's basket of an offensive rebound tied the score with three seconds left and the OT was in motion. Bethany Lutheran pulled away late to finish off game 1 of this Tournament with the 92-90 victory. Bethany had six players in double figures, and Greenville had 5 as these two teams battled hard all the way. Truely, as the cliche' says, it's a shame someone had to lose this one. Central Christian College 68 - Emmanuel College 54 Chelsea McHenry led three in double figures as the Central Christian "Lady Tigers" took a 2-point half time lead into a 14 point victory. Jodi Wright tallied 16 and Christy Pyle added 14 for the victors. Felicia Towler scored 20 for the Lady Lions and gathered in 13 rebounds for double-double in the defeat. Teammate Rashunda Laster also had double-double also with 10 points and 14 boards. Oakland City University 81 - North Greenville University 69 Sophmore guard Karissa Walter led all scorers with 32 points tonight as the Lady Oaks pulled away late to defeat the North Greenville University Lady Lions 81-69. Walter had one of those nights when if she had kicked the ball it would have touched nothing but net. For the night "K" shot 10 of 12 inside the arc, 9 of 10 from the free throw line, and also added a rare 3-pointer to total 32 big points. Seniors Emily Miller and Kim Sliwa added 13 apiece and Sophmore Chelsea Miller added 10 more. Free throws proved to be the difference as the Lady Oaks hit 25 of 29 to 13 of 17 for the Lady Lions. Robin Warner pitched in 21 for North Greenville and Audrey Toscano added 14 more to the effort. Debbie Wyatt played a strong inside game with 8 points and 7 rebounds. North GreenvilleUniversity 69 - Emmanuel College 53 North Greenville & Emmanuel College battled even until the 11 minute mark of the 1st half when NGU opened up a 17-12 lead and never looked back. Balanced scoring and 50% shooting helped the Crusaders post a 33-23 half-time advantage. twent-two percent shooting from the field proved to be too much of a hole for the Lady Lions to overcome. Eboni Davis led the victors with 21 points as Nikki Wood added 16 to the cause Wood pulled down a team high 8 boards also Felicia Towler had a double-double with 17 points and 10 boards for the Lady Lions in the loosing effort. Southern Wesleyan University 79- Bethany Lutheran 63 Bethany Lutheran, behind Jessica Merseth's 10 points and Leslie Bremer's 9 tallies pulled out to a 39-33 half-time lead. The game was ragged from the start with both teams scrapping hard for the upper-hand. But in the second half Sophomore guard Keunna Thomas took over and scored all 19 of her game high points to bring the Warriors back. Thomas's 3-pointer at the 17:05 mark gave the #1 seed a tie. A quick 5-0 run put the Warriors ahaed for goodexcept for tie scores at 59 and 61. From that point on SWU's pressure opened up an ever increasing lead to finish in front by 16. Merseth finished the game with 17 for the Vikings. Central Christian College 63 -Oakland City University 58 Oakland City opened up a 6-0 lead and with the exception of one tie at 7-7, led the whole1st half. Both teamsshot in the low 30% in the first 20 minutes and split 20 turnovers between them. The second half was close throughout with the Lady Tigers pulling even at 33-33. From there there were 4 lead changes and 3 more ties before Central Christian, on a 3-pointer by Joanna Pyle at 9:00 made the score 40-39 for the Lady Tigers. The Lady Oaks closed to 1 at 52-51 with 3:03 left when Chelsea McHenry nailed another 3-pointer to seal the fate of the host team. Oakland City was never closer than three points the rest of the way. Jodi Wright led the Lady Tigers, and all scorers, with 18 points. McHenry added 16 and Kelly pitched in 14, 10 of those coming in the second half. Number 7 seed Central Christian will play # 1 Southern Wesleyan at 5:00 pm Saturday for the NCCAA Division I Championship. Consolation games start at 1:00 pm and host Oakland City will play Bethany Lutheran for third place at 3:00pm.North Greenville University 73 - Greenville College 69 North Greenville didn't put this game away untill there were 26 tic left in the game and Nikki Wood canned two FT to open the margin to 5 points. Even then the Panthers of Greenville College kept fighting and could have still pulled even, but the breaks didn't go their way when it was needed. Tied 29-29 at the intermission after a back and forth 20 minutes that saw 4 ties and 5 lead changes, the Crusaders opened up a six point lead with 15:00 left when Wood again tallied 2, but from the field this time. Freshman Eboni Davis led the Crusaders with 19 points while Debbie Wyatt added 16 off the bench and Woods added 14 more. Hillary King had a game high 19 for Greenville College, all in a substitute's role, while Tricia Dreage pitched in 14 more. Tricia Frost had 12 points, as did Meredith Banal who had 9 rebounds also. North Greenville finished the tournament in 5th place. Oakland City University 88 - Bethany Lutheran College 71 Oakland City, behind a balanced attack with 4 doudle figure scores led by Karissa Walter with 26, defeats Bethany Lutheran in the thrid place game 88-71. Chelsea Miller and Liz Geltmaker, in her last game for Oakland City had 15 each. Liz got her points on 5 of 7 from behind the arc. Jodi Hobbs added 14 in the victory. Karissa pulled down 11 boards to record a double-double for the Lady Oaks. Three Double double's were posted by the Vikings from Mankato, MN. Of particular note is the 16 points and 21 rebounds by Eva Voss. The 21 boards is a single game record eclipsingthe mark of 20 held by 2 previuos finals participants. Leslie Bremmer also had 16 points and 13 rebounds, while Cali Hines had a team high 17 points with 10 boadrs for the third double-double for Bethany Lutheran. CHAMPIONSHIP GAME: Southern Wesleyan 77 - Central Christian 73 It was a "dogfight" from start to finish. Central Christian and Southern Wesleyan were tied at 2-2 and after that the Lady Tigers trailed by as much as 11 in the first half, yet each time they fought back, often to a 1 point deficit, but could never tie or take the lead. Keunna Thomas led the Lady Warriors with 16 points and played a super floor game in directing the attack. Amanda Chrisley put in 15 in support, Chinessia Lee adding 11 and Sara Vollmer and Savannah Parnell put in 10 each. Christy Pyle and Chelsea McHenry each totaled 18 for the scrappy Lady Tigers and Jodi Wright had 15 in support. McHenry added 11 rebounds to complete a double-double in a great effort.
