Oakland City 5-1 Robert Morris - Springfield

A third hatrick in 4 games from Danielle Hinton (Jeffersonville, IN) and 2 goals and an assist from Emily Gries (Evansville, IN) powered the Lady Oaks to an impressive victory over Robert Morris - Springfield.

The Lady Oaks started very quickly and peppered the visiting team with shots in the opening exchanges. This dominance was demonstrated when Lisa Seib's (Evansville, IN) pin point through ball found Gries surging into the area and she made no mistake side-footing past the onrushing goalkeeper.

Oakland City continued to press with Seib pulling the strings in midfield and Chrissy Longest (New Albany, IN) holding the ball up well in attack. The constant pressure proved to no avail, until with just 6 minutes remaining in the first half, a Seib corner looked destined for the net via Hinton's head at the near post. Only for the freshman forward to be sent sprawling by a push from an opposition defender. Hinton got up, dusted herself down and converted the penalty to double the lead.

Hinton then made it three when Gries robbed a defender, fed her on the edge of the box and watched her rifle the ball into the nearside top corner.

The second half began much as the first ended with the Lady Oaks vibrant attacking play causing problems for the visitors defence. When Abby Loveless (Oakland City, IN) robbed a Robert Morris player with 17 minutes gone and released Gries down the right wing few were expecting a shot, least of the goalkeeper who could do nothing but watch the ball sail over her head and in at the far post.

Oakland City's final goal came two minutes later when quick thinking from Amber Kessler (Washington, IN) with the throw, allowed Terri McCormick (Mt Vernon, IN) to find Hinton at the 18. Hinton turned the defender with her first touch and beat the keeper with her second.

Robert Morris pulled back a late consolation with a penalty kick.

Coach Botterill was pleased with the performance against a potentially tricky opponent "We really came out to play today. We started quickly, finished well and looked very solid defensively for the most part. The week's rest has done us the world of good and I just hope we can carry this with us into Monday's game against St Mary of the Woods."
