Lady Oaks Stun Cincinnati
Oakland City 8-1 Cincinnati Bible College
Twin hatricks by Emily Gries (Evansville, IN) and Danielle Hinton (Jeffersonville, IN)
propelled the Lady Oaks to a comfortable victory over an improving Cincinnati Bible College side.
Having controlled a number of games this season without getting the early goals that were needed
the Lady Oaks were challenged to do exactly that and they responded in good fashion. A corner
from the left was cleared back out to Hinton who played an excellent back post cross to Chrissy Longest
(New Albany, IN) who rose highest to direct the ball back over the goalkeeper's head and in at the far post.
The Lady Oaks were 1-0 up with only 3 minutes gone.
Oakland City kept up the pressure going close on a number of occasions, Hinton having a goal
disallowed for offside and Longest striking a post only to see the ball run along the goal-line
and out the other-side. With the half drawing to a close it looked like the Lady Oaks were going
to have to settle for a 1 goal lead, until Hinton picked up a half clearance on the left corner
of the box and curled it past the despairing 'keeper and into the far corner.
5 minute later with just three minutes remaining in the first half Hinton recieved the ball on
the left, broke past a defender and swept in a cross, it was too high for Longest, as she made the
near post run, but was met with a bullet header by Emily Gries, giving the goalkeeper no chance.
After half-time the story was much the same, Hinton set free by Gries made no mistake from inside
the area. A cross from Lisa Seib (Evansville, IN) was flicked on by Emily Gries and Lindsey Holt
(Shoals, IN) pounced at the back post to volley home. Hinton again recieved the ball on the left and
her cross cum shot eluded both the goalkeeper and a defender on the line to sneak in. Gries reacted
quickest to a goalmouth scramble to stab the ball home and completed her hat-trick when released by
Amanda Allen (Browns, IL).
With the score at 8-0 the Lady Oaks relaxed somewhat and CBC forward Abi Santel pounced on a
defensive mix-up to rifle the ball in off the near post.
"This was another strong performance against an improving side. We attacked well and with intensity."
noted Coach Botterill, "I was very happy to see our wing-play and movement in the penalty area create so many of the goals."
