Oaks Ease by Cincinnati

Oakland City 5-1 Cincinnati Bible College

Oakland City University's Women's Soccer team proved too strong for Cincinnati Bible College as a goal and an assist each from Gries and Hinton, and unassisted goals from Loveless, McCormick and Smith sealed the game.

Starting in a slightly unfamiliar 4-3-3 formation in an attempt to combat the undersized field the Lady Oaks looked slighlty disjointed as they made their attempt to get back to winning ways. Moving the ball a little too slowly allowed the CBC defense to double team around the ball and left little space for good attempts on goal.

A concerted spell of pressure lead to a succession of Cincinnati goal kicks. From one Emily Gries (Evansville, IN) rose highest and directed the ball into the path of Danielle Hinton (Jeffersonville, IN) who took one touch before placing it past the onrushing goalkeeper.

Hinton returned the favor just before half-time playing the ball through to Gries who slipped the ball to the goalkeeper's right to give the Lady Oaks a 2-0 half-time lead.

The second half saw number of positional changes as the Lady Oaks tried to turn their territorial advantage into goals. A cross from Hinton was cleared to the edge of the penalty area only for Britnye Smith (Washington, IN) to guide a header past the goalkeeper and in at the far post. Cincinnati got one back on a breakaway before Terri McCormick (Mt Vernon, IN) made a surging run through the heart of the Cincinnati defense and finished comfortably.

It turned out to be the defender's day as Abby Loveless took hold of an attempted clearance and rifled a shot left footed into the far corner.

Coach Botterill was pleased with the result if not the performance, "It was good to get a win today, but we were far too pedestrian in our attacking play. Cincinnati got behind the ball and made it difficult for us but we need to play the ball quicker if we wnat to open up these sort of determined defenses."
