Lady Oaks Fall to Berea
Oakland City 1-3 Berea
The Lady Oaks of Oakland City University never quite recovered from conceding
after just 70 seconds. A spirited second half show was not enough to drag them back into the game.
Oakland City barely had chance to get into the game before a long ball over the right side of the defence saw
a Berea forward go clean through on goal and make no mistake from inside the area. 10 minutes later and it went from bad to worse.
Another breakaway and another goal. The Lady Oaks were looking decidely shaky at this point. Working hard defensively
but struggling to get any meaningful possesion.
Berea Scored their third 15 minutes before half time and the Lady Oaks were looking down and out.
Not for the first time this season the half time break seemed just what Oakland City needed.
Coming out for the second half they looked rejuvenated and wasted no time putting Berea under pressure,
moving the ball more quickly and looking more solid in defense.
The spell of pressure resulted in a number of chances for the Lady Oaks' forwards, Chrissy Longest (New Albany, IN) having
a header and a shot from a breakaway well saved and Emily Gries (Evansville, IN) hitting the post and having a header cleared
off the line by an alert Berea defender.
The Lady Oaks did drag themselves back into the game when a sweeping move down the right found Gries
open on the left and she made no mistake burying the ball in the far corner
"Again we waited until the second half to start performing," noted Coach Botterill, "We have gotten
away from our defensive game plan, somewhat, in the last couple of games and it's cost us. We'll refocus
on that and be ready for Kentucky Wesleyan on Tuesday."
