The 2009 lady oak soccer team set two major goals before the 2009 season started. First, they wanted to reach the NCCAA regional tournament, a goal they met when they faced Cincinnati Christian in the Mid-East Regional game on November 16. Second, they wanted to improve on their goal difference from the 2008 season of -30, a goal they also met.
“We did well” said first year coach Gerald Nichols “Getting to regionals was a rallying call for the girls and many stepped up for the team” The team Goal difference rose to -17 “We have a lot of work to get that one on the positive side, but this is a great start”
Many fresh faces, combined with some familiar ones, allowed the Lady Oaks to improve upon their previous season. Among those familiar faces was Sophomore Megan Nanney, the Lady Oaks leading scorer. Nanney played in all thirteen games, scoring 8 goals. A trio of players played in every minute of every game, the Lady Oaks' lone Senior Nichole Tsimekles, as well as Sophomores Kerrie and Kyndal Thompson played 1175 minutes each.
Sophomore Goalkeeper Kaci Weatherholt also played every minute of the thirteen games. Weatherholt, the only keeper on the Lady Oaks roster, posted two shut outs to go along with a 2.46 goals per game average. She was also able to stop 3 penalty kick during the season. “Kaci was one of the most improved players on the squad, last year her GPGA was 4.19.”
Among the new players to OCU, Freshman Midfielder, Jamie Goldsberry played an important role in the midfield, “her versatility helped us when we need help at forward or defense.” Forward Ciara Leslie also contributed greatly to the team’s progress, Leslie was the second leading scorer with three goals. Holding down the center defense along with Tsimekles was Karrin Bryant from Princeton. These, along with upcoming recruits will help to build on what the Oakland City University Women's Soccer team has accomplished over the years and, hopefully, will continue to improve the tradition that is Lady Oaks' Soccer.

The 2010 roster is already beginning to take shape as the Lady Oaks announce the signing of midfielder Kylee Eveans of Marquette High School in Moro, Illinois. The 5'4" Eveans, daughter of Rick and Carey Eveans, was on the State Runner-Up team in 2009 after leading her team to a record of 47-18-5 in her final three years of high school. She scored 17 goals and had 31 assists, 19 of which came in her senior campaign, in 70 games at the varsity level.
A member of the National Honor Society, Honor Roll, Peer Leadership, Student Council Ambassadors, Campus Ministry and Youth Group, Eveans plans to major in Special Education while playing for the Lady Oaks' squad.Coach Nichols said about Eveans, "I am very happy to have a player like Kylee at OCU. She comes from a culture of winning, like we are trying to build here. Her skills will help us hold the ball in the middle of the field and give us more time to attack and take the pressure off the defense."
