Freshman Karissa Walter was named 1st team All-American for the NCCAA Division I basketball after the finals Saturday night. Karissa has displayed leadership abilities far beyond her 5-5 stature. Karissa is the only Freshman to be honored with this award this year. A check of the season statistics shows Karissa led the Lady Oaks in a number of offensive catagories. Her 13.6 scoring average led a very balanced attack of three double figure scorers, and her 6.0 rebounding average led the team in that stat also. Her 44.0% shooting accuracy is also tops for Lady Oaks, all from the point guard spot. Steals at 79, assists at 69 and minutes played at 1058 just continue to show her importance to this team. Karissa's totals for free-throws of 166 made and 212 shot are both team records for the Lady Oaks. A summation of Karissa'a season can be found in this year's team basketball guide where Coach Weddle says: "Karissa plays with a tremendous amount of heart and love for the basketball. "K" sees the court, makes big plays, is intense on the defensive end, is always in control of the game, and most impressively does it all with a smile on her face. With a little time in the college backcourt "K" will be an Oakland City University fan favorite". Our congratulations go the the 5'-5" point guard from Crown Point, IN, and the assurance that "K" is definately a "fan favorite" of the Lady Oaks boosters.
