CHAD MILLER
6’1” GUARD
OAKLAND CITY UNIVERSITY
RAMSEY, INDIANA
Oakland City University’s Chad Miller, a 6’1”
senior guard out of Ramsey, Indiana, is the recipient of the 2007 National
Christian College Athletic Association’s Pete Maravich Memorial
Award.
Miller has rammed home 1436 points in his four-year career in a “Mighty
Oak” uniform with season averages of 5.2 as a freshman in 2003-04,
14.1 as a sophomore in 2004-05, 14.3 as a junior in 2005-06, and 17.4
as a senior in 2006-07 heading into the 2007 NCCAA Finals. Included
in those averages are school records for three-point field goals in
a game (11), season (109), and a career (315). He is a career 83.8 percent
free throw shooter and has connected on 49.9 percent of his overall
field goal attempts, including 46.5 percent of his three-point tries
in his four seasons in a collegiate uniform.
During Miller’s four years, OCU has put together a 79-42 record
(65.3 percent), with seasons of 19-11, 20-11, 18-11, and 17-9, respectively,
including four consecutive trips to the NCCAA Men’s Division I
National Basketball Championships, where the “Oaks” finished
fifth in 2004, sixth in 2005, and as NCCAA National Runner-Up in 2006.
In 2004-05, Miller was selected a First Team NCCAA All-American, and
in 2005-06, he was named a Second Team NCCAA All-American. He also earned
NCCAA Academic All-American honors in 2005-06, receiving a Scholar/Athlete
Award from the NCCAA last year, an award he will receive again in 2006-07.
But those statistics and awards are secondary in Miller’s life,
as the Physical Education/English double major has a deep rooted faith
that has carried him throughout his young life.
He has worked in various outreach programs in his hometown area in Harrison
County, has spoken of his faith to numerous groups, and is part of a
testimonial video. He has also been involved in outreach programs and
community service programs in Gibson County while attending Oakland
City University.
“Chad has been a joy to work with these past four years,”
said OCU Coach Mike Sandifar when notified of Miller’s honor,
“He works hard in everything he does, from the classroom to the
athletic arena, to his personal walk in life—He’s a winner,
and we are very proud of him here at Oakland City University, not for
this award, but for who Chad Miller is as a person.”
