3 More Recruits for Mighty Oaks

A trio of international recruits have committed to play soccer at OCU in 2006, bringing the recruiting class to 11. Andre Gomes (Ontario, CA), Callum Grindlay (Milnathort, Scotland) and Jan Weirum (Greve, Denmark) all will feature in the Mighty Oak squad for the upcoming season.

Gomes was the starting goalkeeper and vice captain for FCP Woodbridge, for whom he won team MVP for both the outdoor and indoor seasons. He is expected to put pressure on the two returning goalkeepers straight away. "Andre is an athletic shot-stopper who should immediately challenge Scott and Austin for the starting gloves," Stated Coach Botterill, "With this addition I feel that goalkeeping is a real strength of the program."

Grindlay is a left footed midfield player equally adept in the center or on the wing. He captained his High School team and had spells with the youth teams of both Dunfermline and St Johnstone (professional Scottish teams). Botterill had this to say about the latest addition to the Scottish contingent at OCU "Callum provides support both in the center of midfield and also on the left. He is naturally left footed which is a definite bonus and will be expected to contribute immediately."

Weirum, is the first scandinavian to commit to the Mighty Oaks but looks set to be a key capture. Naturally used on the outside of midfield, he is also an effective forward. He plays for Greve U-21 in the top national league of Denmark and has also turned out for the senior reserve team. He led his high school to a numbeer five ranking as a senior. At 6'1" he also adds height and aerial ability to the Oaks lineup. "Jan will add athleticism to our team," Commented Botterill, "He has both size and ability on the ball and should have no trouble coming to terms with Collegiate soccer. I believe that this is a strong recruiting class and, with the couple of final names I hope to unveil next week, will see us improve significantly both in the starting 11 and off the bench."
